I had seen ReCaptcha forms around the internet a lot, and thought that maybe it was some giant company that was keeping websites secure, maybe too expensive for the little people to use ~ like SSL or something.. But only recently did I find the awesome facts about ReCaptcha~
Why do we always need to type in these annoying things?
The reason why many websites use these forms, is that people can write programs to go through the internet and collect data or send data…
Google uses this to scan pretty much the whole internet, so we can search it, but it can be used for harm too. EG: you could write a program to search for the “@” symbol, and try to find email addresses (to send spam to), or find forms, to send comments, messages and emails that have spam in them…
One way to stop this, is to never type your email address anywhere on the internet… (you can use an email form…) and if you do have an email form, use a captcha image to test whether the thing sending the form is a human, or internet virus robot.
Why ReCaptcha is awesome
ReCaptcha is a free service that was aquired by Google, and is actually used to help scan books. When book scanners fail to read a word, the word is send to many ReCaptcha systems and people solve it.
Security + helpful function.
Awesome ~
